Photos submitted by Sid Rouch LTJG 1980's
At about 0600 03/10/2009 SAVANNAH began her final day at sea.
Tug BRIDGET McALLISTER began towing SAVANNAH towards South Padre Island enroute to the channel that would take
her near the ESCO Marine decontamination slips.
By 1000 hours she was halfway down the channel with the tug making approximately 5 knots.
At about this same time SAVANNAH and tug BRIDGET McALLISTER was met by tug SIGNET RANGER who assisted the final mile.
At approximately 1235 hours she reached the place where Sid Rouch took these photographs.
By 1330 tug BRIDGET McALLISTER positioned her to moorings in the channel, unhitched and left her alone to await her fate.

AND NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY . . . .
Sid was not in the spot he intended to be to take these photographs, but SAVANNAH was coming in fast so he shot from this unanticipated spot.
While taking the photographs, he noticed a camera crew nearby shooting film of SAVANNAH.
He approached them after the ship passed.
They were a National Geographic Channel crew, from a show called Break It Down.
Their intent is to document SAVANNAH as she gets demolished and have a story ready next March for a second quarter show date.
Stay tuned . . . .
